Radio 3's Beethoven festival
Last week was Beethoven week at the other end of the Atlantic on BBC's Radio 3. Their links to the archives are gone, but the archives are still online if you know the urls which are from

http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio/aod/shows/rpms/radio3/beethoven01.rpm

through

http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio/aod/shows/rpms/radio3/beethoven42.rpm

If you click on the second link above and fast forward to about 1:01 you'll get to the Fleisher/Szell recording of the fourth piano concerto. Unfortunately it plays at 32 Kbps, but the quality of the performance still comes through. For some reason I haven't got around to purchasing the Fleisher cycle of the concerti. Must do that soon.
Another interesting performance is the Beethoven fifth under Dorati which is at the end of the program. It's been a while since I've heard a fifth that had character, so this was a nice treat.

Haven't bought the Fleisher cycle yet? Why not? As you realize, they're very good. :)

Anyway, just wanted to say hello from one classical/Szell lover to another.
