Books of 2007

UPDATE--added authors' names

I reviewed some best-of-2007 lists published by newspapers and magazines, specifically the ones that didn't go on and on, and tabulated which books appeared on more than two lists. Here, dear reader, are the results. I would advise caution. I watched a couple of stupefying independent films last year because they had the highest average reviews on Metacritic. In fact, I'm quite sure I'm going to avoid the Ann Pratchett book below.

These books appeared on five lists:
The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao by Junot Díaz

Tree of Smoke: A Novel by Denis Johnson

Four lists:
On Chesil Beach: A Novel by Ian McEwan

The Savage Detectives: A Novel by Roberto Bolano

And three lists:
Bridge of Sighs by Richard Russo

Lost City Radio by Daniel Alarcon

Mister Pip by Lloyd Jones

Run by Ann Patchett

The Septembers of Shiraz by Dalia Sofer

The Shadow Catcher: A Novel by Marianne Wiggins

The Yiddish Policemen's Union: A Novel by Michael Chabon

Then We Came to the End: A Novel by Joshua Ferris

If you're curious, the periodicals I reviewed were the Christian Science Monitor, the Washington Post (which cheated and published two such lists), the LA Times, the NY Times, BookSense, the Economist, Entertainment Weekly, The San Francisco Chronicle, and the Seattle Times.
