Incompetence and Evil
I've been thinking about the relationship between these two things for the last few years thanks to a certain Western political figure. If you define them thus:

incompetence=showing poor judgment

evil=showing poor moral judgment

then evil is a subset of incompetence, which would explain why evil people don't think of themselves as evil. If however you define incompetence as showing poor strategic judgment, then the two don't overlap much. (Or do they?) And you get this:

incompetence=showing poor strategic judgment

evil=showing poor moral judgment

x=showing poor judgment

My intuition is that most people use the second set of definitions and don't have a word or concept for x. At least nothing comes to mind right now. Is there a word or concept that I'm missing?

P.S. I realize that incompetence=showing poor practical judgment also work, but "strategic" encompasses the essence better in the longer view.

Ubuntu
I decided to simplify my life and not install Ubuntu. I also got a Dell which came with Win XP Media Center Edition, which sounds like a spinoff of Win XP Home, but is actually--and I discovered this the hard way--a descendent of Win XP Professional. So far I love the Dell's performance. But the SATA hard drive I added to it is noisy. It's a Samsung drive so it's mostly Samsung's fault, but the case could be better insulated against noise too.

Sigh
I'm trying to change some email aliases on a site that I manage, so I click 'Manage Email Accounts' as i usually do. I'm already logged in obviously, but today the system decides it's going to ask me to log in with an email/password combo (not a username/password combo). There's no link to help on this page and there's a small email address at the bottom for customer support. So I send an email to that address and--wait for it--it bounces. I've been from one end of this galaxy to the other and I've seen a lot of strange things. But I've never seen an email to customer support bounce. Thank you, adaptive.net.

A Question About Ubuntu
I have a new PC and am about to install Win XP Professional on it. Thanks to populicio.us I just found a way to make it a dual-boot machine with Ubuntu on it as well. Is it worth it?

I could have sworn I hade at least one blog post in January. Oh well.
